The Top 40 Urban Blogs – May 2008

Bpi_top_40_may_2008_2
Note: The lower the scores the better

Since the Blog Performance Indicator team launched the first Top 40 Hip-hop blogs in March, there have been numerous changes and updates in the past two months. The BPI team has actually been commissioned by over ten major online companies for blog research and with that they have extended their traffic, networking and links data much further than Alexa, Compete, Technorati or Digg measurements.

As far as my involvement, I have been working much closer with the team now to make sure that feedback and changes that best suit the Urban blogger community are represented. Advertisers and corporations need to understand the power the Urban Blogger has and this is a tool to show just how powerful we can be…

LL Cool J launches Boomdizzle.com

Ll_4
LL has announced the launch of Boomdizzle.com an online community targeting aspiring artists who can mix and share their music with others. There has been an onslaught of these hip-hop artist supported sites popping up on the internet now which shows that even old school artists like LL Cool J have now fully embraced the power of the internet. Boomdizzle will feature sections where you can mix other artist songs, battle head-to-head and find the inside story on how artists made it big. No word yet on when the official launch will happen.

AOL Black Voices gives WoooHah.com some luv

Aolbv

In a unique look at the world of blogging, AOL site Black Voices took a look at the best comments featured on African-American centered entertainment blogs. WoooHah.com is featured at #8. Of course we can’t take any credit since our faithful reader E-Rod left the comment. It’s still nice to be recognized along with a lot of the top blogs in the game. Thanks AOL, thanks E-Rod and thanks T.I. for your multiple gun charges. We couldn’t have done it without you. Peace.

The Game launches ThisIzGame.com

Game
Tons of hip-hop artists are launching their own networking websites to get a piece of that advertising revenue and greater control of their content, but The Game’s new site ThisIzGame.com is a clear rip-off (in name) of 50′s ThisIs50.com. It will be interesting to see what Game’s site looks like when it is fully launched. At least now you can tell that there are only 63 more days until "LAX" comes out! 50 should release an album called "LaGuardia Airport" to get even.

The Top 40 Hip-Hop Blogs

Bpi_top_40_7

Some associates of mine who are in business school have developed a new blog measurement system called the Blog Performance Indicator (BPI).The BPI measures a percentage of Alexa traffic, Technorati score, Digg, del.icio.us, RSS feeds, social bookmarking reader usage and how much the site has grown in the past month and compares it vs. other "similar category" blogs.

The BPI is supposed to be the most accurate measurement of how one blog performs vs. another and the competition as a whole. I was able to convince them to run the scores for hip-hop blogs. Over 100 active hip-hop blogs (min. one post a week) were rated with over 3,000 active hip-hop blogs found in the nation…
