The Beastie Boys’ MCA launches film company

Adam Yauch AKA MCA of the famed Beastie Boys has just announced the launch of his new indie film company Oscilloscope Pictures. According to Billboard.com, the new company will serve as a sales and distributor of narrative and documentary features from festivals and provide financial backing to complete and release unfinished films.
Yauch has hired former ThinkFilm VP David Fenkel to help run the company. They worked together on the small budget Beastie Boys fan film Awesome! I F*ckin’ Shot That! which was only released in a handful of theaters. Yauch plans to take a less risky approach to funding it’s films. "We’re not looking to throw big (minimum guarantees) at filmmakers or have lawyers throw numbers at us demanding a big minimum P&A," Yauch said. "It’s been the downfall of many distributors." Oscilloscope plans to release anywhere from 2-10 films a year with the first theatrical title to be announced next month. I don’t know what an Oscilloscope is but it’s still a better name than 50′s Cheetah Vision production company.
